The awards will be granted on December 5, 1996, in Stockholm, the day before the presentations of the Nobel Prizes. The Right Livelihood Awards are considered "Alternative Nobel Prizes" in Sweden. KSSP shares the awards with Herman Daly, a US ecolog- ical economist, George Vithoulkas, a Greek homeopathic physician, and the Committee of Soldiers' Mothers of Russia, who have "made courageous efforts to end the war in Chechnya."
The citation to KSSP, which shares the $250,000 monetary award with Vithoulkas and the Committee of Soldiers' Mothers of Russia (with Daly receiving the Honorary Award) notes KSSP's
"crucial contribution to Kerala's successful model of people- centred development."
KSSP founder and leading scholar/activist, Dr. M. P. Parames- waran, spoke at Montclair State University in October of 1995 as a guest of Dr. Richard W. Franke, Dr. Carla Petievich, and the Global Education Center. His topic was: A New World--A New India.
