Audiology Program Degree Requirements
There are three tracks available in the Audiology Program:
  1. Post-bachelors clinical doctorate
  2. Post-masters clinical doctorate
  3. Post-bachelors research doctorate
Post-bachelors clinical doctorate

This is a 118-credit, full-time, four-year program that includes academic coursework, clinical practicum, and research experience.  If you have an undergraduate degree in communication disorders or a related field, you can enter the program directly.  Our broad-based academic coursework and clinical practica enables you to develop the skills you need to provide audiological assessment and intervention to individuals with hearing problems.  The program culminates with a nine-month, full-time, clinical placement.

The entry level clinical doctoral track includes courses in:

  • Diagnostic Procedures

  • Amplification

  • Aural Rehabilitation

  • Medical Audiology

  • Instrumentation

  • Psychoacoustics

  • Research Methods and Practice

The entry level clinical doctoral track also includes six clinical practica, a clinical externship, and a nine month, full-time clinical residency.  The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has affiliations with an extensive set of external sites for clinical placements.

Post-masters clinical doctorate

This is a 48-credit, clinical track for individuals with a master’s degree in Audiology.  You can complete it on a full-time or a part-time basis.  It includes academic coursework and research experience.  Clinical practicum requirements are based on an evaluation of clinical skills during the first year of the program. The coursework focuses on advanced clinical procedures and the scientific bases of clinical practice.  Courses are selected on an individual basis and include electives in areas of interest to you.

 The Post-Professional Clinical Doctoral track includes courses in:

  • Advanced Auditory Potentials

  • Advanced Medical Audiology

  • Advanced Amplification

  • Advanced Psychoacoustics

  • Biomedical Ethics

  • Speech Perception

  • Central Auditory Processing

Post-bachelors research doctorate

This is a full-time program that includes academic coursework, clinical practicum and extensive research experience.  If you have an undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders or a related field you can enter the program directly.  In addition to the coursework and clinical practica included in the Clinical Doctorate, you will complete advanced coursework in research methods and statistics and complete doctoral qualifying exams and a doctoral dissertation
