ASSIGNMENT FOR FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11

     Dear Students:

My car broke down yesterday afternoon. As it was Labor Day, I had
to wait until today to arrange to have it towed from the parking lot
where I had to leave it to a garage, since the garage I use is closed
and its yard chained off. The parking lot manager told me I had to
arrange to have the car towed this morning. Therefore, I have to miss
class today.

Since we have only two classes a week, we can't afford to miss an
entire day of classes. Therefore, I am giving you the same assignment
that I would give you if I were present in class today. You are
responsible for it for Friday.

NOTE: IF YOU HAVE NOT YET EMAILED ME A MESSAGE, IN ORDER TO GIVE
ME YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS, DO SO IMMEDIATELY. My email address is
furrg@alpha.montclair.edu.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY EMAILED ME, OR DO SO BY THE END OF TODAY,
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, I WILL COUNT YOU AS "PRESENT" FOR TODAY'S CLASS.
If you don't, I'll count you as "absent."

Homework Assignment on Young, _The Vietnam Wars_, Chs. 1 & 2

Read chapters one and two of Young's book carefully.

Then, pick ONE paragraph in Chapter 1, and TWO paragraphs in
chapter two. Write at least 1/2 a page (roughly 150 words) on EACH of
the paragraphs. Be analytical. Don't summarize the contents. Instead,
discuss the issues raised. Express your own views, but clearly and
carefully.
