WOMEN IN THE MIDDLE AGES -- ON THE WEB?!

Part of the task of understanding _The Book of Margery Kempe_ is
to put it into a context. Until recently there was very little
research and writing about women in the Middle Ages. In recent
years this has changed, and there has also been an attempt to put some
of this research and information on the World Wide Web.

I'd like you to spend some extra time on this assignment. It will
make Margery Kempe more interesting for you, and will make class
discussions more engaging as well. So, we will be more motivated, and
learn more!

     1. Please use your web browser to go to this site,
Women of the
Middle Ages at the Mining Company. Go to some of the sites and
read, with an eye to 'finding a context' -- similarities -- with
Margery Kempe.

     2. Be SURE to visit the "Julian of Norwich" site (one of those on
this page). On that site, go to "Links to Other Sites", and read this
whole page! When you get to the link to "Margery Kempe of Lynn", click
on it and go to that page as well. PRINT THIS PAGE OUT and
bring it to class. Read it as well.

     3. Please go to the 'Luminarium' site devoted to Margery Kempe.
Here
is the link to the section of her 'essays' page that has
on-line scholarly essays on Margery Kempe. Please study,
and print out, ONE of these essays, as part of your
assignment, as well.

     4. The Writing. When you've done all that, write up what
you have discovered. Post it on the Discussion Forum, which you can go
to
 here.

If you want to respond to another student's post, by all means!
But it's not "required" this time. I'd like you to post your
discussion, though, so we can all have access to it.
