Ted Goertzel is the author of Fernando Henrique Cardoso: Reinventing Democracy in Brazil. He is currently working on a book on politics under President Lula da Silva and articles on political corruption.

 

Stephanie Golob, an expert in Latin America and international trade, has published in World Politics, Democratization, and other scholarly journals. She has won a Fulbright, a Mellon, a Whiting, and other fellowships.

The Mandala Project, 10 am-3 pm, SC Ballrooms A & C

The word “mandala” means circle, and represents the beginning and the end.  In Tibetan tradition, mandalas represent the wholeness and connectedness of the Universe.  The Mandala Project is a collective work of art created by MSU students, staff and faculty.  Come view the collective mandala as we celebrate the beauty of diversity on our campus.

Film screening: In the Time of the Butterflies, 5:30 pm, University Hall 1010

A film and discussion based on the Julia Alvarez novel.  This movie is inspired by the true story of the Mirabal Sisters, or “las Mariposas,” who in 1960 were murdered for their part in the underground plot to overthrow the government in the Dominican Republic Latin America and the United Nations responded by establishing November 25 th as the International Day of Awareness of Violence Against Women.
