The Department of Political Science and
Law offers a variety of law related programs designed:
- To offer Jurisprudence,
Pre-Law
and graduate Law Programs for students interested in advanced education
in law, working in law related fields, or interested in political science;
- To advise students about advanced legal education and theory;
- To promote Montclair University's
involvement with law schools, the organized bar and the general public
through initiatives such as conferences, research studies and student
internships.
- To offer Montclair State University students pre-law preparation for
law school. The pre-Law Program is a minor that may be combined with
many diverse majors on campus. The new Jurisprudence program is an attractive
example.
- To offer at the graduate level, a Master
of Arts in Legal Studies for students interested in non-attorney
careers in legal studies with optional concentrations in Governance,
Compliance and Regulation, Dispute
Resolution, Intellectual Property, and in Law
Office Management and Technology. Providing academic opportunities
leading to career enhancement, the curriculum is on the cutting edge
of specialty areas such as alternate dispute resolution, legal management,
licensing intellectual property, copyright, trademark law, ethics and
professional responsibility. Legal Studies provides courses in a broad
range of subdisciplines in problem centered areas:
- To educate within a humanistic liberal arts education;
- To provide state of the art theory in an interdisciplinary environment.
- To prepare students sophisticated legal environment of the twenty-first
century;
- To develop theoretical and practical knowledge of advocacy and dispute
resolution;
- To enhance legal research and writing abilities;
- To develop analytical and critical thinking skills essential understanding
law and the legal field.
