Advising Worksheets for all programs within the Linguistics Department

Graduate Advisement

Every student in Linguistics at Montclair State has an advisor. Although current procedures for phone registration make it easy to register without seeing your advisor, we strongly recommend that you meet with your advisor every semester prior to registration. This is the best way to avoid problems and to ensure that you are taking the correct courses in the proper sequence.

Since we are a small department, we cannot offer every course every semester. Some required courses are offered in alternate years, and most electives will be offered only every two, three, or four years. You cannot, therefore, expect that the particular course that you need will be offered whenever you need it. If you miss a required course when it is offered, the course will not be waived. You will have to wait until it is offered again. It is therefore essential that you meet with your advisor every semester at registration time so that you do not miss an opportunity to take an important course.

Advisors (AY 2011-2012)

Mary Call is the advisor for all candidates for the TESOL Certificate granted by Montclair State University. Dr. Call also is advisor for all ESL students.
Alice F. Freed is the advisor for all MAT candidates.
Longxing Wei is the advisor for all MA students and for candidates for NJ second field certification in TESL.

Advisors

 If you are a liberal arts linguistics major in Linguistics, and your last name begins with A-Fer, your advisor is Dr. Nadolski. If your last name begins with Fes-Ku, your advisor is Dr. Feldman; if your last name begins with L-Rem, your advisor is Dr. Freed. if your last name begins with Rh-Z, your advisor is Dr. Sotillo. If you are a TESL linguistics major, your advisor is Dr. Wei .  If you did not enter Montclair State directly from high school or with an Associate’s Degree, then Dr. Call is your advisor.
