The M.A. Educational Psychology program aims to increase the student's knowledge of the application of psychological theory to educational practice.

What can I do with the M.A. Educational Psychology degree?

This degree is useful for those wishing to persue School Psychologist certification or moving forward into a doctoral program.  It is also beneficial to certified school teachers who are looking for both additional knowledge about behavior and moving up on the salary guide.

Course Requirements (36 credits)

  • Required Courses (15 credits)
    • PSYC 510: Research Methods in Psychology
    • PSYC 561: Developmental Psychology
    • PSYC 563: Theories of Learning
    • PSYC 660: Current Topics in Educational Psychology
  • Department Electives (nine to 15 credits)
  • Outside Electives (zero to six credits)
  • Thesis or Capstone Experience (four or six credits)

Optional Child/Adolescent Clinical Psychology concentration

The Concentration in Child/Adolescent Clinical Psychology prepares our graduates to work with a pre-adult population in clinical settings such as hospitals and community mental health centers. Students receive both theoretical training and applied clinical experience as part of the requirements for this Concentration.

What can I do with the M.A. Educational Psychology-- Child/Adolescent Clinical Psychology degree?

MA level clinicians are able to do, under supervision and in exempt settings such as hospitals and community mental health centers, virtually anything doctoral level clinicians can do: individual and group psychotherapy, program administrators, psychological testing, etc. However, they cannot do private practice, even under supervision with this degree.
