This site is maintained by Dr. Ludwig Kowalsi of Montclair State University in memory of his father who was arrested in 1939 in a Stalinist purge and deported to the Kolyma concentration camp in the Russian town of Magadan (on the Russians side of the Bering Strait) where he died at the age of 36.
