I am very concerned about the November elections in Bloomfield. There is a lot of serious in-fighting within parties going on. NO ONE IS ADDRESSING ISSUES.

Since I have not received any literature from any candidate, I would like to urge those of you who have to please post the candidates' positions on specific economic and social issues that affect their wards.

Here are the contenders: Charlie Daglian v. Kevin Nolan (FIRST WARD)

Dennis DECarlo v. Ray Tamborini (SECOND WARD)

Victoria Burnett v. Maureen Esposito (THIRD WARD)

What do these people stand for? What have they done to earn our vote of confidence? Have they met with their constituents? What have they accomplished if in office?

PLEASE DO NOT POST LIBELOUS MATERIALS. Stick to the facts. What do they stand for? Are they active in their wards? Do they meet with their neighbors and local business owners on a regular basis?

Clifford, you ask what these people have done. Do you ever read a newspaper? Daglian, DeCarlo and Esposito are incumbents; their votes and comments have been reported on right along. Burnett has been very vocal (and that's being polite) for a number of years.

Ray Tamborini has volunteered with BVES for years and years. You haven't heard much about it because he's not one to look for credit--though he's saved countless lives. Kevin Noland is new, and I don't know much about him.

But to reiterate, if you're sincerely interested, you can learn about four of the six if you read back issues. Don't rely on campaign literature for facts!

I don't trust either paper. Both editorialize and cheat the reading public.

I want to see documents and be able to question each of the candidates. I have read a lot of nonsense lately about some candidates.

My question remains, what do they stand for? Of the incumbents, what have they accomplished in three years? Are taxpayers consulted or is there an effort to reach out to them by any of these people?

I understand that one of the associations is going to sponsor a Meet the Candidates forum. When will this take place?

All six of the candidates will be asked to appear on channel 35 in October for a one hour interview of each.

Hey Worrall! Why hasn't this thread been removed yet? Don't you think that some of us aren't offended by the vile sound effects? Won't you please protect us?

Just Curious

Cut it out! There are no sound effects here! Don't try to derail some decent discussion on real issues.

The Independent Press had an article on page 6 (9-9-99) about updating the Township's trash code. It was drafted by Mrs. Bonica, and one of the Dept. Heads, Mr. Proctor, will discuss it at our next town meeting (September 21st). Why don't you attend this session?

Has anyone received any literature? I don't have cable and that means I can't watch the debate. I'll ask someone to tape it for me. I want to be able to ask questions of the candidates. I'll wait until the WHNA organizes a Candidates' Night.

The WHNA Candidates Forum will be held on Tuesday, October 19th at the Civic Center starting at 7:30pm.

Invitations were mailed to the Freeholder and 3rd Ward Candidates.`

WHNA, will the public be allowed to ask questions?

< Subject: RE: Issues for November Elections >
< From: >
< Date: 14-Sep-99 >

And what will the parameters be? Prepared speeches or actual debates? Questions and answers?

< Subject: RE: Issues for November Elections >
< From: >Common Sense
< Date: 14-Sep-99 >

With all due respect, debates tend to be a waste of time. Each candidate packs the room with supporters whose duty is to ask questions that will show his/her candidate to the best advantage. The best (and only real) debates are those in which the candidates are permitted to ask one another questions.

Maureen: So Vicky, have you ALWAYS paid your property taxes diligently? Why not?

Or how about:

Maureen: Vicky, did you get a C of O before you opened your campaign headquarters?

And then there's:

Maureen: Vicky, is it true South will be converted to a drop-in center for repulsives if you're elected?

Please get off this thread. Instead of second guessing everyone, post what their literature says they stand for. What are they going to do for the Third Ward? Will they be able to get federal grants to improve this area? Will they make sure the town code is enforced? Will they work diligently with the Planning Board to develop the WEstinghouse site? I am not interested in what clubs or churches they belong to. That's worthless to taxpayers. I want them to address real issues.

The township does not own the Westinghouse site. It is owned by Westinghouse so we have no control as to what will be on that property. IF Westinghouse sells that property, that is a different story.

Get ready! If you're going to Harvest Fest, you won't be able to walk 10 feet without tripping over a candidate! Even those who denounce it?? Let's see what kind of principles they have. Will Mr. No-Overtime show up? How about Mrs. I-hate-everything-Norton-ever-stood-for?

Darn. I missed her. Got running-mate Charlie's literature though. Funny that he mentions "delinquent taxes." Politics sure does make strange bedfellows!

Palagano and Scarpelli were also doing the political walk, complete with literature and front-men.

M.Esposito was there, but not campaigning. I think I saw Tamborini on duty with BVES.

Please don't tell us she said "I am a taxpayer"!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw Sabrina Ianuzzi O'Brien campaigning for Scarpetti or Scarpelli. She's now in the third ward. Who is she supporting Art?

< Subject: RE: Issues for November Elections >

To 2 posts above: Who cares what she was screaming about THIS time? If it's not one thing, it's another. Or nothing at all.

Honest Question:

Are Ward Elections like Mayor & At-Large Elections? I mean, do the candidates in the same party support each other and put each other's name on their signs and say "support the party line" or is it each wo/man for themselves?

< Subject: RE: Issues for November Elections >
< From: >
< Date: 21-Sep-99 >

One of the current 3rd ward candidates attacked her fellow county committee people for not supporting the whole line in the past. Of course, never practicing what she SCREAMS, she put duct tape over the names of Skinner and Kane when they ran on the same ticket as Bukowski and Galioto.

Any questions?

I will vote my conscience and convictions. To hell with any semblance of "Party Loyalty". Both "Parties" in D.C. gave themselves a BIG raise, and what did the folks on Social Security get? 2% at best, then take away a Medicare increase.

Party Loyalty my ass!

How about Charlie Daglian's flip-flop on the issue of overtime (fire department)? Suddenly, at election time, the fire department's overtime is A-OK with him!

< Subject: RE: Issues for November Elections >

All of you voters in the third ward remember that Vicki Burnet is the one person who is responsible for all the rotten postings being put on TV 35 about the late Susan Arms.

< Subject: RE: Issues for November Elections >
< From: >Wind In His Hair
< Date: 21-Sep-99 >

Charlie Daglian is the guy who put an end to the radar on our streets, thereby sacrificing the safety of our lives and those of our children.

He said it was due to overtime costs. Frankly it pays for itself, especially on side streets where people fly through on a regular basis.

Finally he had a relative get nailed and that started his own little ethnic vendetta against our police and their use of radar!

Why did the Chamber of Commerce suddenly move to Century 21's offices? Anything to do with the new "administrator"? Didn't he work closely with her on that BOE committee about South? Who owns the building her campaign headquarters are in?

Inquiring minds want to know!

< Subject: RE: Issues for November Elections >

It doesn't matter WHAT she does, she will NEVER make it. Everyone remembers how she would get to the podium at the BOE meetings and curse and swear and yell at the members.....No Respect! We DON'T need her on the council. Remember that when you go to the polls.

I have been away on business. This has degenerated into a name-calling thread. That's too bad. Some of your postings are libelous and downright unfair. I saw Mr. Zawacki at the Harvest Fest enjoying himself while many of us were stuck waiting for the Fire Dept. to help us out or taking garbage out to be picked up.

No one ever called my house to notify me about water contamination or other problems. I did not see any announcements anywhere. I'll remember this in November. The least our council persons should have done is visit our neighborhoods.
